Finding a peaceful haven with wildlife, plants and open spaces does not always mean a trip to the countryside.
Giving everyone a taste of the countryside on their doorstep has been the guiding principal of Northamptonshire County Council’s pocket park scheme since its conception over 25 years ago. Since then, the county council has worked in partnership with many organisations and other local authorities to help local communities create over 80 pocket parks.
Pockets parks can now be found all across Northamptonshire including in the grounds of Kettering General Hospital, on the outskirts of Towcester which the local school use as their outdoor classroom, at the heart of Northampton town centre and on a former landfill site in Raunds.
